HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Some of Connecticut's top Democrats expressed concerns about how president-elect Donald Trump would wield power when he returns to the Oval Office.

"I just want to be honest with you, I am very worried that Trump is serious when he says he is going to be a dictator on day one," U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn) said. "I mean, I don't think its outside of the realm of possibility that this Department of Justice is going to be hunting his political enemies."
State Attorney General William Tong echoed some of Murphy's remarks, saying that he's ready to confront the next Trump administration.
"If anybody tries to come into our states and take advantage of, rip off, or attack the people and families in our states, we will stop them," Tong said.
Abortion is one of the fears that is most common among Democrats. In addition to the White House, Republicans have also taken control of the Senate.
"A national ban on abortion will preempt state law in Connecticut," U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn) said. "That's just a reality of the federal system. So, we need to be prepared for a fight. There's no question that people around this President want to ban abortion across the country."

Blumenthal continued by saying that he believed some Republicans in Congress would work to stop a national abortion ban.
State Sen. Steve Harding (R-Conn), the top Republican in the state, said that his colleagues stand largely in support of abortion rights.
"I strongly believe that Connecticut should have very proactive, positive, liberal abortion legislation – that we should provide access to women to abortion and reproductive care," Harding said. "I think the far majority of Connecticut Republicans, you know, believe in the tenets of Roe v. Wade which is currently codified in our state law."
Harding also said that there would be times where Connecticut Republicans disagree with Trump, despite being from the same party.
