Conor McGregor Ruins Michael Chandler’s Plans With One Word Response to Charles Oliveira’s UFC 309 Win

Charles Oliveira and Michael Chandler gave us one of the most spectacular five-round non-title fights in recent memory. The bout was action-packed from start to finish, with both fighters taking each other to deep waters, and earning a Fight of the Night bonus from Dana White. In the end, Oliveira clinched the victory, while Chandler got the nod from fans for his incredible showing, and proceeded to call out the man who kept him sidelined for almost a year and a half – Conor McGregor. However, 'The Notorious' did what he's done to 'Iron', again, and ignored his call-out despite the latter cutting a WWE-like promo in his post-fight speech. Instead, he set his eyes on the former lightweight champion 'do Bronx'.

After the event, Charles Oliveira uploaded a picture of himself at the iconic Madison Square Garden with the caption, "Thank you, #UFC309." While he expected some positive replies from fans, he definitely did not see McGregor's single tweet challenge coming. In the post's comment section, 'The Notorious' uploaded a picture of himself from when he was the UFC double champion.

That's not all; he also wrote a simple one-word caption, "Ola," to greet his possible next opponent. Conor McGregor was scheduled to face Michael Chandler for the better part of two years, but after constant delays, Chandler decided to move on. 'Iron' ended up meeting Charles Oliveira in a rematch in the UFC 309 co-main event; however, despite it being a back-and-forth, Oliveira got the better of the exchanges. Now that the American fighter has suffered his second consecutive defeat and is 1-4 in his last five fights, McGregor wants to fight Charles Oliveira next.

It is no surprise that the Irishman is trying to grab the attention of 'Do Bronx.' After all, why would he risk a fight with someone who has four straight losses, when he can assert his greatness with a possible win over Oliveira? While Michael Chandler seems to have moved on from Conor McGregor , vocally so, the latter also seemed to have quietly moved on with his message to 'do Bronx'. While McGregor did respond to Chandler, commending his UFC 309 fight, he didn't give any indication of wanting to fight him. Given this situation, will Charles Oliveira accept a fight with 'The Notorious'?

Charles Oliveira denies a Conor McGregor fight With his second win over Michael Chandler, Charles Oliveira is close to a second title shot. The mission is clear for 'do Bronx', wait for the winner of Islam Makhachev vs. Arman Tsarukyan in January, and fight whoever holds the lightweight title next. For the upcoming title bout, Oliveira will be watching closely since he lost to both men. The Brazilian star will have a unique opportunity to right one of his past losses, and this is an opportunity he cannot pass up for anyone.

While Oliveira expressed an earlier interest in fighting Conor McGregor, it seems like Oliveira is no longer interested, especially since McGregor put Chandler on the sidelines for a year and a half. He said, "This is the guy that runs away the most in the UFC. This fight is not going to happen. Would it make sense? Yes. Would it be a good fight? Yes. Would people love it? Yes. We both sell fights well, but he chooses his opponents. This fight is not happening."

With his eyes set on a possible title fight, Charles Oliveira doesn't want to pass up the opportunity with a money fight against Conor McGregor. He won't make the same mistake his UFC 309 counterpart did, and waste precious years of what's left of his career. But if that fight did happen, who do you think will win? Will it be the Brazilian finisher or the Irish former champion? Sound off in the comments.
