A low-pressure system will bring cooler temperatures, gusty winds, light rain and possibly mountain snow to the San Diego region through Saturday morning, the National Weather Service said.

"Well below average temperatures are expected today and Saturday," the agency said, adding that "periods of rain and mountain snow showers are expected through Saturday morning."

Precipitation was forecast to total up to 0.30 inches in the valleys and foothills, and 0.25 to 0.85 inches in the mountains.

Highs on Friday will be 61 to 64 along the coast, 60 to 63 in the western valleys, 53 to 58 near the foothills, 46 to 53 in the mountains and 65 to 70 in the deserts.

At the beaches, an increasing northwest swell will bring surf of 4 to 6 feet with sets up to 8 feet through early Saturday.
