Cooler weather graces San Antonio on Thanksgiving, few light showers expected
SAN ANTONIO - We've enjoyed a sunny, mild afternoon in the 60s across our region. Perfect day for travel or last minute errands before Thanksgiving. It'll stay nice through this evening but definitely on the cool, crisp side for those that are out. Meanwhile, our Thanksgiving system of interest can be seen easily over Mexico with some rain already trying to move into far South Texas near McAllen to Brownsville.
This upper low will be pivoting northeast across South Texas during the day Thanksgiving then quickly moving northeast toward Louisiana by the end of the day. This upper low will bring a layer of mid-level clouds at or above 10,000 feet with some dynamics to try and develop rain. However, while radar may look impressive through the morning to early afternoon, this rain will need to overcome a deep, dry layer of air from the ground up to about 10,000 to 12,000 feet up. Much of this rain will evaporate as it falls and this is called "Virga".
While much of the rain we see on radar is drying out before reaching the ground, I do expect sprinkles or light shower reports to come in from the I-35 corridor and the eastern half of our viewing region while little to no rain is expected in the western third of our viewing region. Rainfall amounts will range from a trace to .05", so not a terribly impressive event. But is worth noting for those that might be traveling during the day or spending a little time outdoors.
Temperatures will be cooler in the 50s as well given a period of mostly cloudy skies. In fact, the middle of the day may be completely cloudy for a time. Areas closer to the Rio Grande will spend the afternoon in the 60s with more sunshine.
After this system quickly moves out, Friday still looks fantastic for shopping or the evening Ford Holiday River Parade on the San Antonio River Walk. The morning starts chilly but then warms quickly into the mid to upper 60s with mostly sunny skies.
