A Massachusetts preschool teacher and her one-year-old daughter were killed while on vacation after a raging fire ripped through the house.

Shannon Hubbard, 35, and her husband, 39-year-old John Hubbard, were spending time at an Air BnB rental property with their two young children in upstate New York last weekend.

But on Sunday, New York State Police and East Clinton Fire crews responded to a 911 call reporting a house on fire in the Town of Clinton, a village roughly 50 miles east of Syracuse.

John, the caller and a Dennis police officer, stood outside the blazing home as state troopers first arrived, stating that his wife and two children were trapped on the second floor of the home.

One of the children could be heard screaming for his father, Mid Hudson News reported.

One New York State trooper attempted to make his way towards the second floor, but the heat, smoke and heavy fire made it an impossible task without the right equipment.

Firefighters weren't able to get into the house until mutual aid from another department arrived, NBC Boston reported.

An Assistant Chief from the Pleasant Valley Fire Department was one of the first to take action to aid in the rescue. He was able to gear up and make entry - all before the first fire engine arrived on the scene.

He successfully pulled Maggie, the one-year-old girl, out of the home and attempted to preform lifesaving measures before an ambulance arrived to rush the baby to the hospital.

As additional firefighters began to assist in the rescue, Shannon and her three-year-old son, Jack, were also pulled out of the home where all four family members were immediately rushed to area hospitals, CBS News reported.

John and his three-year-old boy both survived the blaze. They were taken to Westchester Medical Center to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Shannon was transported to Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie where she remained hooked up to life support.

But on Monday, she was pronounced dead.

Her one-year-old daughter was taken to MidHudson Regional Hospital where she too was pronounced dead.

Now the community in which they were a part of is mourning the shocking and tragic loss of Shannon and her daughter.

Shannon was a preschool teacher at Chatham Elementary School in Cape Cod. In a statement, Scott Carpenter, the Monomoy Regional School District Superintendent, said that she created 'many connections throughout the district's families and staff'.

'Our deepest condolences to her family and loved ones as they navigate this unimaginable tragedy,' the statement read. 'This loss will undoubtedly be shocking and painful for our school community.'

'We will keep Shannon's family and the entire Monomoy Regional School District community in our thoughts.'

Jennifer Kelly, the principal of Chatham Elementary School, said: 'On behalf of CES students and staff, we are heartbroken by the tragic passing of Mrs. Hubbard. Mrs. Hubbard was an incredible teacher who exuded warmth and acceptance,' Mid Hudson News reported.

'She joined CES this September as the lead teacher in our PreK program. She immediately made an impact on students and staff with her kind words and positive actions.'

'Our hearts are with Mrs. Hubbard's loved ones and all those who were lucky enough to know her.'

John Brady, the Dennis Police Chief, issued a statement on Facebook Wednesday in support of John, one of their officers, who lost his wife and youngest child in the tragedy.

'The men and women of the Dennis Police Department are mourning this heartbreaking news. Patrolman Hubbard is a valued member of our department and community, and more importantly our friend. We extend our deepest sympathies to him and his family.'

'We pledge our full support to Patrolman Hubbard and are committed to providing any assistance he needs as his family and loved ones navigate this unimaginable loss. We also know that the Dennis community is caring and compassionate, and will also be a source of support.'

The department also sent four officers to New York state to be with and further support the family, WCVB reported.

There is still no word on how the fire began, CBS reported. The cause remains under investigation.
