CORNELIUS, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Cornelius voters passed $20 million in park bonds Tuesday night.

The ballot referendum passed with 59.5 percent of voters, or nearly 11,000, approving the funds.

The bonds will go toward capital costs of the acquisition, renovation and construction of parks and recreation facilities, plus greenways and open space. This includes the expansion of Robbins Park, Phase II of the tennis/pickleball complex at Bailey Road Park and a shared-use rec center at Cornelius Elementary School.

This park will be home to largest group of public pickleball courts in Charlotte metro area

"Thank you to the Cornelius community for your commitment to preserve, prosper, and play over the next decade" said Chris Kolkhorst, chair of the Cornelius Parks and Recreation Commission.

The bonds are estimated to cost residents $16.10 per $100,000 in property value per year, beginning in fiscal year 2028.
