Coroner: Car, body found underwater at Lake Hartwell

OCONEE COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) — The coroner's office is investigating the death of a man whose body was found in Lake Hartwell on Tuesday.

According to the Oconee County Coroner's Office, a fisherman called 911 to report that he had found a truck underwater near a private boat ramp off of Tugaloo Shores Drive near Fair Play.

Officials pulled the 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche from the lake just after 3 p.m.

Investigators found a 73-year-old man who had died.

Though the coroner's office has not shared the identity of the man, the coroner confirmed that the man lived nearby and had been reported missing earlier in the day,

County coroner Karl E. Addis said that officials will share the man's identity at a later time.

The Oconee County Sheriff's Office is also assisting in the investigation.
