A coroner's report made public Friday identified a motorcyclist who died in an apparent crash with a vehicle near Palm Springs.

The Palm Springs Police Department was notified at approximately 8:15 p.m. Monday of a traffic collision at the intersection of East Palm Canyon Drive and Golf Club Drive, according to a statement from the department.

Officers arrived at the scene and found a motorcyclist sprawled in the roadway with "significant injuries," according to the statement. He was identified in a coroner's report released Friday as Yorktown, Virginia resident Nathen Wilson. His age was not provided.

The Palm Springs Fire Department unsuccessfully attempted life-saving measures as Wilson was pronounced dead on-site.

Drugs or alcohol did not appear to play a role in the death, police said.

East Palm Canyon Drive was temporarily shut down between Broadmoor Drive and Cree Road shortly after 8:30 p.m., and the affected area was opened at approximately 5 a.m. Tuesday.

An investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about the death was encouraged to contact the department's Traffic Unit at 760-323-8125.
