Cougars fall in highly-ranked women’s soccer match
DALLAS — In a battle of nationally-ranked women’s soccer teams at Misericordia’s Mangelsdorf Field, the eighth-ranked Cougars fell to second-ranked Messiah 3-0 on Saturday afternoon.
The Falcons went ahead in the eighth minute and added two goals in a seven-minute span midway through the first half.
Misericordia (6-1) had several good scoring opportunities on six second half shots.
Maureen Ciccosanti made four saves in the first half and Alyssa Pojero had three stops in the second half in goal for MU.
King’s 3, Albright 2
King’s scored three second-half goals to rally for a 3-2 victory over Albright College Saturday.
With the win King’s improved to 3-1 on the year.
After Albright took a 1-0 half-time lead, King’s tied the score at 1-1 on an unassisted goal by Lauren Phillips just 5:06 into the final period. Albright, though would quickly regain the lead when Kennedy Lutz score just 0:56 later to give the Lions a 2-1 advantage at the 51:02 mark.
Amy Barge tied the score at 3:37 later. The Monarchs then forged ahead when Raquel Molina struck net at 59:58 to put King’s on top 3-2 with 30:02 to play.
Field Hockey
King’s 3, Immaculata 2
Kelsey Gabriele and Anna Morgan each scored their first collegiate goal for the Monarchs, while Madysen Jones also scored for the Lady Monarchs.
Alvernia 2, Wilkes 1, OT
A penalty stroke in the 10th minute of overtime (80th overall) was the decisive score.
Wilkes freshman Alysa Adams deflected a shot taken by sophomore forward Marissa Surdy from the top of the circle to tie the score at 1-1 in the second half.
Catholic 2, Misericordia 0
Cougars keeper Angela Pasquini made eight saves in goal.
Men’s Soccer
Lebanon Valley 2, Wilkes 1
Junior midfielder John Stoner took a shot from the left side of the field and buried it past the Lebanon Valley goalkeeper into the right side of the net for the Colonels’ lone score.
Misericordia 3, York 2
Trey Ziegler broke a 2-2 with less than three minutes remaining to lift the Misericordia men’s soccer team to a 3-2 win at York, Saturday.
Parker McArdle and David Malaquias added goals for the Cougars while Ziegler and Nick Rogers had assists.
Penn State Wilkes-Barre 3, PSU Allegheny 2
Penn State Wilkes-Barre tops PSU Greater Allegheny 3-2.
Ryan Patrick finished with two goals assisted by Dennis Gouak and Dylan Luzny. Tom Blasi scored an unassisted goal in the win.
Women’s Volleyball
Cougars drop two
Misericordia dropped a pair of matches at the Susquehanna Hampton Inn Classic, losing to Baldwn-Wallace, 3-0, and Washington College, 3-0.
Against BW, Michelle Sehested led the Cougars with five kills and Nicole Tagerty had 10 assists. Meghan Stack had nine kills and 10 digs against Washington and Tagerty had 23 assists.
Colonels win a pair
Wilkes defeated Cairn 3-0 and Delaware Valley 3-0 beating Cairn by scores of 25-13, 25-12 and 25-7 and the Aggies 25-8, 25-16, 25-11 at home.
Nine different Lady Colonels registered kills in the first match led by Ally Paskas’ six kills and two service aces, while Alexis Morgan paced the passing game with a match-high 18 assists.
Paskas again led the way offensively with seven kills and three digs. Madison Scarfaro and Kayley Schinski each added six kills. Morgan finished with 28 assists while Danica Benson posted a team-high 12 digs from the backline.
King’s sweep doubleheader
The King’s College women’s volleyball team improved to 10-1 on the year with a doubleheader sweep of Gwynedd-Mercy University and Penn State Harrisburg Saturday.
King’s defeated Gwynedd-Mercy 25-14, 25-20, 20-25, 25-12 and topped Harrisburg 25-17, 25-19, 25-20.
Against Gwynedd, Rachel Miller led the way with 18 kills and eight digs while Jill Korgeski followed with 10 kills and two blocks. Emma Hanrahan dished out 23 assists with 11 digs.
In the win over PSU-Harrisburg, Kollar posted a team-high 11 kills with eight digs. Milelr followed with nine kills and three digs while Korgeski and Shifflett added eight kills each. Smudde registered 14 digs.
PSU-Schuylkill 3, PSU-Wilkes-Barre 2
Wilkes-Barre’s record fell to 2-2 with the five-game loss losing by scores of 25-22, 25-18, 25-17, 25-10, 15-9.
