Coughlin Snags Win In Division I Opener Hafey’s Mike Dougherty Sets A Course Record In Victory.

WILKES-BARRE – Pat McHale and Pat Flaherty finished 1-2 for Coughlin’s
boys, which opened their Wyoming Valley Cross Country League Division I season
with a 24-33 victory over Crestwood at Kirby Park on Wednesday.
McHale won in 16:59, followed by Flaherty in 17:20. Mark Bellas was fourth
for the Crusaders in 17:51. Nick Marsilio led Crestwood with a third-place
in 17:47.
Bishop Hafey 22, Wyoming Seminary 39
HAZLE TWP. – Mike Dougherty established a course record with a winning time
of 17:43 as Bishop Hafey began pursuit of its 10th consecutive WVCCL Division
III title.
James Montone took third for the Vikings in 18:54, while Wyoming Seminary
was led by Brendan Sinatro’s second-place finish in 18:41.
Hazleton Area 26, Tunkhannock Area 29
TUNKHANNOCK – Tunkhannock Area’s Andy Hildebrand won in 17:59, but Hazleton
Area’s eighth- and ninth-place finishes from Sean Duva (19:57) and John Layton
(20:04), respectively, gave the Cougars a key Wyoming Valley Cross Country
League Division I victory.
Lucas Mariano (18:13), Mike Litvinov (18:23) and Kerry Boyle (18:55)
finished 2-3-4 for Hazleton Area.
Hanover Area 23, Lake-Lehman 36
HANOVER TWP. – Sophomores Joe Stanek (18:15) and Jeff Rafach (18:29)
finished 1-2 for Hanover Area, which improved to 2-0 in WVCCL Division II.
Ryan Bloom was third for Lake-Lehman in 18:44.
Bishop Hoban 16, Greater Nanticoke Area 47
WILKES-BARRE – Bishop Hoban took the top four spots, led by Joe DeGraba’s
win in 19:17, in WVCCL Division II action.
Joe Nguyen (19:38) and Pete Nguyen (19:39) took second and third,
respectively, for the Argents. Eric Slack was fifth for Greater Nanticoke Area
in 20:22.
Berwick Area 17, Pittston Area 45
YATESVILLE – Matt Bonsall led a trio of Berwick Area runners in the top
three, winning in 17:56 in a WVCCL Division I meet.
Nathan Roth was second in 18:12 and Jason Terdiman took third in 18:24 for
the Bulldogs. Alex Caicedo was Pittston Area’s top finisher in fourth in
Dallas 25, Wyoming Area 38
DALLAS – Wyoming Area’s Frank Redmond won in 17:36, but Dallas placed
runners in four of the next five spots to win a WVCCL Division II meet.
Adam Singer led the Mountaineers with a second-place finish in 18:40, while
teammate Brandon Hiscox was fourth in 19:26.
Bishop O’Reilly 20, Northwest Area 41
SHICKSHINNY – Rob Bauer led a group of eight Bishop O’Reilly runners in the
top 10, winning in 17:50, in WVCCL Division III action.
Tim DellaRose was third in 18:20 and Conor Judge was fourth in 20:01 for
the Queensmen, while Jesse VanSock led Northwest with a second-place finish in
GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
Crestwood 23, Coughlin 34
WILKES-BARRE – Molly Brown won in 20:00, leading Crestwood, which claimed
three of the top four places in its WVCCL Division I opener.
Coughlin’s Lynn Lisofsky placed second in 21:37 and Jacklyn Caccese was
third for the Comets in 22:29.
Hazleton Area 15, Tunkhannock Area 46
TUNKHANNOCK – Hazleton Area claimed the top five spots, led by Noelle
Andrasi’s win in 22:21, in a WVCCL Division I meet.
Teammate Brenae Edwards also finished in 22:21 to place second. Betsy Sayre
led Tunkhannock Area with a sixth-place finish in 22:57.
Lake-Lehman 24, Hanover Area 31
HANOVER TWP. – Freshman Alyssa Namey won her second consecutive WVCCL
Division II meet by 47 seconds, finishing in 21:03, but Lake-Lehman won five
of the next six spots to pull out the victory.
Kelcey Cole was second for the Black Knights in 21:50, while Courtney Matus
was fourth in 22:43 and Melissa Josuweit fifth in 22:57.
Wyoming Seminary 25, Bishop Hafey 34
HAZLE TWP. – Bishop Hafey’s Kayla Weaver took first in 22:00, but Wyoming
Seminary captured third through eighth places en route to the WVCCL Division
III victory.
Blair Gallagher (22:48), Erin Hannigan (23:50) and Mayi Lecuona (23:51)
finished third, fourth and fifth, respectively, for the Blue Knights.
Pittston Area 20, Berwick Area 41
YATESVILLE – Berwick Area’s Christa Johnson won in 21:19, but Pittston Area
nailed down the next six spots in a WVCCL Division I meet.
Laura Lee Olson (21:24), Amanda Klimasiewfski (21:34) and Janelle
Jesikiewicz (22:45) placed third, fourth and fifth, respectively, for the
Patriots.
Dallas 15, Wyoming Area 50
DALLAS – Dallas claimed the top nine places, led by Lisa Giacometti’s win
in 20:14.
Jessica Jones placed second in 20:25, Hillary Adams was third in 20:50 and
Kenslie Kerestes took fourth in 20:59.
Northwest 25, Bishop O’Reilly 30
SHICKSHINNY – Grace Ciak of Northwest won in 22:39 and teammate Brittany
Furek was third in 23:42.
Kathleen Flynn placed second in 22:40 for Bishop O’Reilly.
