Could Harris or Trump visit State College ahead of Election Day?

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (WTAJ) – With election day coming in a couple of weeks, both candidates will be making some last-minute stops on their campaign trail – but State College is nowhere on the travel list.

Pa. is a battleground state in the upcoming presidential election, yet Centre County has been noticeably absent from both campaign's destinations. Juniata College Professor Dr. Dennis Plane said there could be a couple of reasons for this.

"Campaigns are torn in a thousands different directions and there's only 24 hours of a day," Plane said.

However, this isn't the first time something similar to this has happened, according to Penn State Erie Professor Dr. Rob Speel. He said Hillary Clinton ignored several key areas across the commonwealth during the 2026 presidential election cycle.

"She ignored most of the state and thought it didn't matter and it actually did matter," Speel said.

Harris has been sticking to campaigning in states where she has a chance of turning blue, but Plane said that Trump has been taking more of an "unconventional" approach. Trump has appeared in states like Colorado and California, states that Plane explained "he will almost certainly lose." Though, Plane also mentioned that Trump has always been one to make "his own rules," so this different approach may end up helping him.

State College is home to thousands of young voters thanks to Penn State, and that same demographic tends to register independent and vote Democrat, according to Plane. It is more for this reason that Speel says to not count Harris out just yet.

"She's still got a few weeks to go and we may see here show up there before Election Day," Speel said.
