Couple Stunned When Both Propose To Each Other At Concert At Merriweather Post Pavilion The couple had secretly planned to propose to their partner without the other knowing. Both proposals unfolded at the same time in Columbia.

COLUMBIA, MD — Rachel Hundertmark and Rashad Polk have been dreaming of a future together since they first kissed at an indie rock band concert in Baltimore 2.5 years ago. So it's no surprise to those who know and love them that both secretly planned to propose to each other at a concert at Merriweather Post Pavilion - without the other knowing.

Crazily enough, both of them proposed during the concert at the exact same time.

Hundertmark, 36, and Polk, 41, met in 2019 during a work project but didn't reconnect until April 2022 after the pandemic when both were attending Baltimore City Community College. Fast forward to 2024 and Polk pondered proposing to Hundertmark, but she'd briefly mentioned she wasn't interested in getting married, The Washington Post reported. Unbenownst to Polk, Hundertmark had changed her mind.

"I thought, 'If I want to be with Rashad forever, then I might as well make it official and put a label on it," she told the Post. "But I didn't want a traditional proposal."

So Hundertmark secretly hatched a plan to buy a ring and propose to her boyfriend during a June 14 concert by Modest Mouse. She asked her 16-year-old daughter, Jasmine Halstead, to record the proposal. Other friends and family were invited to attend the concert, but had to stay quiet about Hundertmark's plans.

However, Polk also had decided he would propose to his girlfriend at the same concert. He confessed his plans with Halstead who caught off guard. She now had two secrets to keep and wasn't sure how two secret marriage proposals by the same couple would play out.

When the time was right, Hundertmark pulled a ring box from her pocket, dropped to one knee and asked Polk to marry her.

"I told him that I wanted to spend the rest of my life on the Merriweather lawn with him," she said.

But Polk burst into laughter. Then pulled a ring box from his pocket and dropped to one knee, too.

"I was absolutely shocked," he said. "We both forgot to say 'yes' — we just hugged each other and cried, we were so happy."

Halstead was ready for both proposals and caught everything on video. Last month, Hundertmark shared that video on TikTok , where it racked up almost 475,000 views.

"It was a lot of fun to keep their secret, but I was glad it was finally out," she told the Post. "It was such a great moment, and I was happy to play a part."

The couple plans to wed Sept. 28, 2025, at the Bon Secours Retreat & Conference Center in Marriottsville where they first met in 2019.

"When we get married, it will be almost six years to the day that we met," Polk said.

"We'll definitely be playing some Modest Mouse music at the wedding," Hundertmark added.
