Craving a stretch of quiet weather? Monday kicks off a mostly dry week in Portland

We tend to expect wild and dramatic weather later in the fall season, but this week will feel a lot like early autumn with a few light showers, sun breaks, and moderate temperatures.

The National Weather Service expects “generally quiet” weather through the week as a system setting up shop off the California coast contributes to “a prolonged period of relatively benign weather” across Oregon and southwest Washington, according to the morning forecast discussion.

Portland will see some showers early Monday, but they should taper off quickly as the latest front moves eastward. Skies will stay mostly cloudy, and the high temp will reach about 54 degrees.

Partial clearing overnight could create the chance of some fog formation. But a drier northeast airflow could mitigate that in most areas.

Tuesday will start out mostly sunny with calm winds. The high will approach 54 degrees. But a weak system rotating around the northern California front will bring light rain chance during the afternoon to most of the mid-Willamette Valley from about Salem southward. At the same time, a couple of weak systems will move across Washington bringing light rain chances to the Portland/Vancouver area during the late afternoon. Rain amounts will be light with less than a tenth of an inch expected.

Those rain showers may linger into Wednesday morning. Once showers taper off, the afternoon will be partly sunny. High temps should reach near 51 degrees.

Extended forecasts are showing a drying trend heading into the weekend. Thursday will be mostly sunny with a high near 52. Friday may be a few degrees warmer under mostly sunny skies with a high of about 55 degrees.

Here's a quick look at the week ahead across NW Oregon and SW Washington: Showers diminish across the area today, with light rain chances returning late Tuesday into mid week. Another stretch of drier weather expected late in the week. #orwx #wawx pic.twitter.com/Tit46cDeSR
