Crestview loses share of conference title in loss to Garfield

NEW WATERFORD, Ohio (WKBN) – Only two teams remained with unbeaten records in conference play in the Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference – Gray Tier coming into Week 9. It was Garfield who left New Waterford Friday night with a guaranteed share of the conference title following a 23-22 victory over Crestview.

The Rebels broke a tie early in the third quarter to take a 22-16 lead, but a failed two-point conversion ultimately came back to bite them in the end.

A Max Hawkins touchdown in the first quarter gave Crestview an 8-0 lead after one.

Jake Noling found Ethan Kane for a touchdown early in the second quarter and after a G-Men score, the Rebels took a 16-8 lead into halftime.

Garfield tied the game early in the third and then Mikey Proctor's touchdown run put the lead back in Crestview's corner. But a two-point conversion attempt failed, giving the Rebels a six-point lead, 22-16.

Garfield scored again late in the third and took a one-point lead into the final frame which would ultimately be the final score.

Garfield (8-1) will visit Brookfield . Crestview (7-2) will visit LaBrae .
