Criminal Probe Into Trooper Shot On Southern State Pkwy.: Report State police said on Wednesday that the shooting on Trooper Thomas Mascia "did not occur the way it was reported."FARMINGDALE, NY — State police are launching a criminal investigation into the trooper who was shot last week on the Southern State Parkway, WNBC reported on Wednesday.
Patch attempted to get a comment from state police regarding the latest details.
State police previously announced that Trooper Thomas Mascia was suspended without pay and his West Hempstead home was searched due to " inconsistencies " in the investigation.
Rewards leading to arrest were also discontinued.
Police initially said Mascia was shot in the leg on Oct. 30 on the highway after stopping to aid someone in a vehicle. Hundreds of troopers applauded his hospital release on Friday.
"At that time, with the information that we had available to us, there was great concern for him," State Police Mayor Stephen Udice said, according to News 12.
Now he said some questions remain unanswered. They feel "the incident did not occur the way it was reported," Udice said, according to WNBC.
State police said "No arrest has been made or is imminent."
