FORT COLLINS, Colo. (KDVR) – Colorado State University police are investigating two separate incidents from Wednesday.

On Wednesday morning, CSU police were doing a welfare check at Alpine Hall when they found a deceased person in a room . The cause of death is not known yet, and the person has not yet been identified.

Assault with a knife reported on CSU's campus, shelter-in-place lifted

CSU police updated on Thursday afternoon that there is no threat to the community and no suspects. Students reported getting text messages from university police that said to shelter in place.

"It was weird because I had just woken up and the first thing I heard is, 'Are you okay, did you hear that, and what's going on?' Nobody knew what was going on, there was so many rumors going around," said CSU freshman Robin Johnston.

Later that day, around 8:30 p.m., CSU police issued another shelter in place, after an aggravated assault with a knife near Laurel Hall on the Oval. The suspect was reported as a bald white male in his 30s, who police believe fled campus. The victim was treated and released.

"When I talked to some of my friends and colleagues, there was a lot of people, I think faculty and students that really would have thought after those two incidents back-to-back yesterday, that class would have been canceled today," said CSU senior Andrew Canonaco.

Both students told FOX31 they believed the alerts were vague, but have overall felt safe in Fort Collins and on CSU's campus.

"I think when these incidents happen, we need to have better communication and better notification from the university directly," said Canonaco. "You always think that things may not transpire possibly in your school, in your university, on your campus, at your workplace, until those things do."

The two incidents from Wednesday are being investigated separately. Support services are available for CSU students and staff who are impacted by these events.

"I have loved CSU for years, that's why I came up here because the campus is so beautiful. I have never felt unsafe before," said Johnston. "The assault that happened last night, that kind of put me into reality of it could happen anywhere."
