PALM DESERT, CA — More than 50 students of the California State University, San Bernardino in Palm Desert recieved scholarships collectively totalling over $100,000 recently, the school announced.

The Palm Desert Campus awarded funds to students across various disciplines, recognizing academic excellence, community involvement and dedication to personal growth for the 2024-25 academic year.

"Investing in our students is crucial to their success and the future of our community," said Edna Martinez, associate vice president of PDC. "These scholarships reflect our commitment to providing accessible education and ensuring that financial challenges do not hinder our students from achieving their goals."

Students shared their thoughts about receiving their scholarships.

Jasmin Nichols, a nursing major from Palm Desert, who hopes to work in a labor and delivery unit at the bedside of laboring mothers was awarded the Rogers Scholarship.

"This award has alleviated some of my worries regarding safe transportation, the unexpected things university life can hurl at you and the single-parent head-of-household role," she said.

Meanwhile, Mackenzie Buchanan, a social work major from Indio, said the scholarship is a "powerful reminder that I am on the right path and that support is available even in times of uncertainty."

For Jose Fausto, who was not granted federal financial aid this year, the scholarship is a lifeline.

"This grants me the opportunity to continue working toward my educational and career goals," he said.
