Culver City Voters Favor $189 School Parcel Tax: Semi-Final Results
CULVER CITY, CA — The measure extending an $189-per-parcel tax to fund the Culver City Unified School District is heading toward approval, according to semi-final results.
Measure O was favored by Culver City voters 82.35% to 17.65% — or 12,502 "yes" votes vs. 2,680 "no" votes — according to the latest tally released by election officials.
The results reflect 2.62 million ballots counted countywide by early Wednesday morning, representing 45.59% of registered voters, which the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk's Office said were "semi-final results." The results also reflect another approximately 80,000 counted ballots reported by the registrar's office on Wednesday afternoon.
There are still "many" ballots left to count: The registrar plans to release updated counts each day after 4 p.m. until all ballots are counted and the results are certified, the registrar's office said.
The measure renews a $189 tax levied on real estate parcels that was approved by votes in 2018 as Measure K. That measure expires in June 2026, according to the district.
"This revenue currently funds more than 25 positions, including teachers, counselors, athletic coaches, and classroom support staff," the district said.
Measure O would raise $2.4 million annually for eight years.
While the election results have yet to be certified, school officials celebrated the overwhelming approval reflected in the semi-final results.
