CWLP starting annual water main leak detection work in Springfield
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — Over the next four weeks, City Water Light and Power workers will be checking for water main leaks in Springfield.
City residents may notice work crews surveying areas in the right-of-way and near roadways. The workers are from the CWLP's contractor, McKim & Creed, and will be checking for water main leaks in the southeast part of town, east of I-55 and southeast of I-72.
The company's technicians will be using acoustic devices along 113 miles of water main in their work.

This annual survey started in 2008 as an extension of similar CWLP water conservation efforts. Over the course of the program, the entire water distribution system (over 740 miles) has been surveyed three times.
These surveys have identified 447 hidden/unknown leaks, eliminating an estimated 2.1M gallons of water loss per day. CWLP Water Department crews will schedule and complete leak repairs after fully completing the survey work.
Drivers must slow down and be aware of equipment and crews working in and near the roadways.
