A New Hampshire man who was critically injured Sept. 9 when he crashed his bicycle in Acadia National Park has died.

John Bennett "JB" Parrett, 70, passed away from his injuries two days after his foot came loose from a clip-in pedal as he was biking on the Park Loop Road near the Cadillac North Ridge Trail crossing. Parrett was an experienced road cyclist who, though wearing a helmet, suffered significant head injuries when he fell from his bike, park officials said at the time.

Acadia officials confirmed his death on Tuesday.

Parrett, a resident of Newmarket, N.H. was a Navy veteran and photographer who, after leaving the military, worked in software development for nearly 30 years, according to his obituary . He also volunteered in the marine education program at University of New Hampshire and for Gundalow Company , a maritime heritage organization.

He is survived by his wife, two adult children, and three grandchildren.

Deaths in Acadia are extremely rare, but not unheard of.
