Cyclones: Iowa State quarterback Becht named Big 12 Freshman of the Year
Iowa State redshirt freshman quarterback Rocco Becht has been named the Big 12 Offensive Freshman of the Year.
The Wesley Chapel, Fla., product threw for 2,674 yards, 20 touchdowns and completed 63.5 percent of his passes, all Iowa State freshman records.
Becht is the first quarterback to win the Big 12 award since Spencer Sanders of Oklahoma State in 2019.
Iowa State had 16 players total earn All-Big 12 honors.
Senior cornerback T.J. Tampa and sophomore safety Jeremiah Cooper were named to the first team. Junior wide receiver and junior fullback/tight end Stevo Klotz earned second-team honors.
Tampa, from St. Petersburg, Fla., allowed one touchdown in 414 snaps this season. He also had interceptions. He also ranks sixth in tackles with 44.
Cooper, a sophomore from El Paso, Texas, ranks fifth in the nation in interceptions with five. He allowed just one touchdown on 331 snaps and has 41 tackles.
Noel, a junior from Kansas City, had 60 receptions for 741 yards and six touchdown catches. Noel also has 321 return yards.
Klotz, a junior from Chaska, Minn., played primarily fullback and had seven receptions.
Additionally, 11 Cyclones earned honorable mention status.
On defense, Beau Freyler (DB), Tyler Onyedim (DL), Domonique Orange (DL), Jack Sadowsky (LB), Gerry Vaughn (LB) and Malik Verdon (DB) were selected.
Benjamin Brahmer (TE), Jayden Higgins (WR) and Jarrod Hufford (OL) represented the offense.
Kicker Chase Contreraz and punter Tyler Perkins were also named.
The Cyclones (7-5) find out their bowl destination and opponent on Sunday.
