Good morning, Lincoln. Here's what you should know today.

Businesses see continued success

Carissa Anderson used to walk from her parents' shop to Open Harvest for a cookie or apple juice.

Anderson's parents, Greg and Deb Haselhorst, owned Euphoria, which at that time was next door to Open Harvest, a food cooperative, and KZUM, a nonprofit radio station, near the corner of 27th and Randolph streets.

Said Anderson: "I did get a front row seat to see all of the challenges, the rewards ... and I just watched them. They've always had a curiosity and they've been willing to do something different."

The three businesses that were on the corner of 27th and Randolph streets have a shared history, but they have since followed different paths. All have found success, though.

Herbster a candidate for ag secretary

Charles Herbster, the wealthy Falls City cattle producer who finished second in Nebraska's Republican gubernatorial primary in 2022, is among the candidates President-elect Donald Trump is considering naming the next U.S. Secretary of Agriculture, according to the news outlet Politico.

Herbster, who was an agricultural adviser to Trump during his first presidency and who donated more than $450,000 to support Trump's bid for the White House, is among at least five candidates Trump is considering for the position, Politico reported Tuesday.

In a social media post Tuesday afternoon, Herbster said it "would be a distinct honor" to be considered for the post and noted the Politico lists "many well-qualified candidates."

NU volleyball to host Minnesota

Nebraska volleyball player Taylor Landfair caught a little bit of a break when the Huskers' lone match vs. Minnesota this season was scheduled to be played in Lincoln.

That's because Landfair played her first three seasons for the Golden Gophers. While these "reunion" matches are typically less awkward than they seem, Landfair's case is a little different. She was the Big Ten player of the year and first-team All-American in 2022, helping lead Minnesota to the NCAA Sweet 16.

Second-ranked Nebraska plays No. 16 Minnesota at 8 p.m. on Thursday in a match on Big Ten Network.

Said Landfair: "I think it will just be like any other game, honestly. I feel like I have no bad blood with any of the girls. So I'm just really excited and eager to kind of do this with my new team and just see how it goes."

That's it for Thursday, Nov. 13. Stay in the know with Lincoln's longest-standing news source at JournalStar.com and we will see you back here tomorrow.
