Dale Earnhardt Jr.: NASCAR should 'probably' move championship race from Phoenix
There is a lot of debate going on about the NASCAR Playoffs and about Phoenix as a championship track. Dale Earnhardt Jr. has weighed in on it. The Hall of Famer would like to see the finale move around.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. spent a ton of time breaking down the end of the NASCAR season on his Dale Jr. Download podcast. There was a lot to go over between the Truck, Xfinity, and Cup Series.
One of the biggest debates in NASCAR is about Phoenix. Should it be the championship race? Or does the sport need to go to Homestead, Las Vegas, Charlotte, or another track for the finale?
"Should we race somewhere else for the final race of the year? We probably should move it around. I think that Phoenix has had a great run. But I've got to give Phoenix credit, they have put a ton of money into that race track.
"It's not a bad facility to go and have a good experience. You can move around, there's a lot of room in all the garage areas as a fan, the media center's great. All of the interior of the racetrack and exterior of the racetrack is cooled, tons of camping."
With the sellout crowds and great amenities at Phoenix Raceway, it is hard to go anywhere else at the moment. Homestead-Miami is planning on renovations to prepare themselves for the 2026 championship.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. weighs track debate for NASCAR championshipThe season is over, Dale Earnhardt Jr. has won the NASCAR Xfinity Series championship as an owner and he has thoughts. A lot of fans were not happy about the race that Phoenix put on for the Cup Series, at least.
The Xfinity Series race on the other hand was awesome. Justin Allgaier drove through the field a couple of times to win the championship. Dale Earnhardt Jr. gave his thoughts on Phoenix on his podcast .
"Gluck did a poll, did Phoenix live up to the moment? 41.6% said, yes. Am I right? Not great," Earnhardt said on the Dale Jr. Download. "Look, Phoenix is going to Phoenix sometimes. I think the general opinion is, there are more exciting race tracks. Look, you can build 50 race tracks, they're not all, you can try your hardest you know, to build 50 race tracks of different types, and there's going to be a great one and there's going to be one that's not so good. And Phoenix kinda falls right in the middle somewhere. Sometimes you have some great events. We had a great event in the Xfinity Series the night before."
Dale Earnhardt Jr. appears to have a solid take on this. Phoenix is great for the fans and the experience. As far as racing? Eh, not so much. Rotating the finale would do a lot to diversify the championship and give fans something different every once in a while.
