Dallas Cowboys dealt major Dak Prescott injury blow after quarterback was accused of 'quitting' on team by ex-receiver
THE Dallas Cowboys have discovered the full extent of quarterback Dak Prescott's injury in a major setback.
Prescott limped out of Sunday's defeat by the Atlanta Falcons with a hamstring injury.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones revealed the quarterback would be headed to injured-reserve.
Prescott is out a minimum of four weeks if he's placed on the IR list.
But new details have emerged which paint a worrying picture for the 31-year-old.
According to NFL Network's Jane Slater, Prescott's hamstring tendon partially tore off the bone.
Slater added that Prescott would be out for more than four weeks if that initial diagnosis is confirmed.
The quarterback is looking for more opinions on his injury and how to handle it.
But there are fears he could be out for the remainder of the season with surgery a possibility.
Dallas are 3-5 heading into Week 10 and facing an uphill battle to make the playoffs.
If Prescott is healthy in mid to late December, the Cowboys would have to evaluate whether to put the star quarterback back in if their playoffs hopes have faded.
Prescott signed a four-year, $240million contract extension this off-season.
But the Cowboys have suffered some brutal defeats this year and are lagging behind the Washington Commanders (7-2) and Philadelphia Eagles (6-2) in the NFC East.
Dallas host Philadelphia this Sunday with Cooper Rush starting under center.
Former NFL receiver James Jones claimed this week that Prescott quit on his team.
Jones later issued an apology to the quarterback for speaking before the full injury diagnosis was revealed.
"Dak is quitting," Jones said on FS1. "And it's crazy because it ain't even funny though.
"My man is quitting on these dudes. I've had a hamstring injury plenty of times and I'm back the next week.
"It don't take no four weeks for you to heal from no hamstring.
"You're no Lamar Jackson, you're not Jalen Hurts. You're not running, where are you running to? Four weeks?
"Basically put me on ice for four weeks. No fight, no nothing.
"Is it off the bone or something?
"Because there is no way you're telling me you're out four weeks with no answers, no fight, no nothing for a hamstring.
"And you're a quarterback. There ain't no way."
After Wednesday's full injury diagnosis, Jones backtracked and issued an apology on X.
Jones wrote, "Nawww, this can't wait until tomorrow. That's my fault.
"Seeing the reports of how bad it might be, that's tough! God Speed Dak."
