Dallas Cowboys news: A look back at recent history of Dallas and Seattle

The Cowboys second-straight Thursday game is a critical one in the Wild Card race between them and the Seahawks .

Seattle has the upper hand recently, however, coming out victorious in each of the last four regular season games.

The Cowboys snuck a playoff win in between those four regular season games, but otherwise have to go back to the 2014 season for their last regular season victory.

Today I’ve decided to take readers for a stroll down memory lane with my personal top three games between Dallas and Seattle.

Finally, I mention a game the Cowboys actually won.

This game was played during the magical 2014 season when Dallas lost a close game in Green Bay in the Divisional round .

That was the Dez caught-it game, and I can go on and on about that, but that’s a rant for another day.

The 2014 version of the Dallas Cowboys had the best offensive line in the NFL, and they proved it with RB DeMarco Murray rushing for 1,853 yards and 13 touchdowns.

That type of knock-out and grind-it-out style is what earned the Cowboys the victory over the Seahawks and the 12th man in Seattle that day.

The Cowboys will meet with recently cut LB Shaquille Leonard today, with reported interest also coming from the divisional rival Eagles.

With Leighton Vander Esch out of the year, the Cowboys could use some help at linebacker and are interested in the recently released Leonard, per the Dallas Morning News’ Dan Moore . At this point in the game, he’d be their best option for replacing Vander Esch and could help with their Super Bowl run.

The Seahawks have lost two straight coming into Thursday night, but are still a dangerous team the Cowboys need to take seriously.

Just a few weeks ago, Seattle was considered one of the favorites in the NFC, even winning its division over the 49ers with a 5-2 record. Since then, they’ve lost three out of four games, including a 31-13 loss to San Francisco on Thursday at home. While they’re still right in the middle of the playoff picture, the schedule doesn’t get easier for the Seahawks, whose next three games are at Dallas and at San Francisco, followed by a home game with the Eagles.

Seattle’s Geno Smith has been banged up here in the last few weeks and it’s probably a product of the amount of hits he’s been taking. When looking at the Seahawks’ record, it seems to have a direct correlation with the sacks allowed. In Seattle’s six wins, the team has allowed a total of nine sacks. In the five losses, they’ve been sacked 18 times, including six last week against the 49ers.

The Seahawks have quite the trio of wide receivers, starting with D.K. Metcalf, along with veteran Tyler Lockett and rookie Jaxson Smith-Njigba. Seattle is one of just four teams in the NFL this year with three different wide receivers with at least 400 receiving yards, led by Metcalf, who has 678 yards.

The Seahawks have signed a familiar face of the Cowboys in cornerback Kelvin Joseph, a second-round pick of the team in 2021. Joseph was recently traded by Dallas to Miami just before the start of the season. The Dolphins released Joseph earlier this month but he’s now on the Seattle practice squad.

Seattle has a few names on the roster and practice squad that have spent time in Dallas, including veteran offensive linemen Jason Peters, who played for the Cowboys at guard and tackle last year. Peters is a 20-year veteran and is currently on the Seahawks’ practice squad. Seattle also has cornerback Michael Jackson, a 2019 draft fifth-round pick of the Cowboys.

The gap between the Cowboys and Eagles may not close much for the rest of the season, but Dallas can still climb the rankings and secure their status as a contender.

Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles might be more impressive winning close games against fellow Super Bowl contenders than they are dominating against lesser opponents. Outlasting the Chiefs in a hostile road environment and resilient enough at home to come back against the Bills three times in the fourth quarter and overtime is special. Jalen Hurts went right back into MVP form in outdueling Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen in consecutive weeks.

The 49ers dominated with defense overall against the Seahawks and grinded through to a fine offensive performance in a tough road environment on Thanksgiving. They are flexing as a complete NFC force at the right time, right before the Eagles showdown in Philadelphia.

Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs started slowly offensively against the Raiders and their defense also had bad lapses. But then their young receivers beyond Travis Kelce came through for Patrick Mahomes as they had their most complete offensive performance in several weeks, getting ready for the stretch run.

Baltimore Ravens

The Ravens took down the Chargers by their usual dose of pressure, good coverage and forcing turnovers. They proved they can still dominate rushing offensively while still maintaining ace situational passing with Lamar Jackson.

The Dolphins got back to knowing they can win games against lesser foes with the running game and defense vs. forcing the passing too much when it’s not there with Tua Tagovailoa in tougher matchup. They should keep rolling with a favorable few weeks ahead.

Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jaguars made another offensive statement in Houston as they got Trevor Lawrence, Travis Etienne, Calvin Ridley all clicking at the same time in a huge division game. They also flexed when needed defensively per usual with big plays in big moments.

The Cowboys don’t mess around with weaker opponents. They blasted the Commanders as their latest offensive feast on Thanksgiving. Dak Prescott’s MVP case is getting more impressive by the week during his unbelievable heater with the Seahawks up next.
