Dallas Cowboys upcoming schedule features tons of road games through October

The Dallas Cowboys won every regular season game played at home last season, and then infamously lost in the first playoff game of that season in the same building. They are still looking for their first win at home so far this season.

As far as opportunities are concerned, the Cowboys are 0-2 at home this season. Both the New Orleans Saints and Baltimore Ravens invaded and conquered. Seeing Dallas lose consecutive games in general, let alone at home, has not exactly been common in the Mike McCarthy era.

You have to go back to the era's beginning to find an instance of Dallas losing three games at home. It was McCarthy's first season and they were the first three games that the Cowboys played in their building after Dak Prescott's season-ending injury. If the Cowboys want to avoid tying that streak they will have to beat the Detroit Lions when they host them on October 13th. Incidentally the Lions were the last team who Dallas beat at home.

Due to this season's schedule, that Lions game is the only time that the Cowboys will be playing at home for quite a while. The Cowboys are on the road for each of their next two games before that Lions game, and then they are on bye. Additionally, the Cowboys have two road games coming out of the bye. That is a stretch of four road games in five contests with the bye helping to break it all up.

Following the Cowboys hosting Detroit, the next time that Dallas will be in their home building is on November 10th when they host the Eagles. This means that the Cowboys, who have already played two games at home, will have just one home game between now and well past Halloween. The World Series should be wrapped up by then and MLB's postseason is over a week from beginning.

Maybe this is what the Cowboys need to fully find themselves. In the Jason Garrett days they used to have success on the road that they couldn't quite replicate at home. The current team is in a bit of a bad spot and some "us against the world" energy could do them well. They did win their only road game of the season so far, for what it is worth.

Should the Cowboys get through this stretch with their head above water, then it will set up a stretch where five of their final eight games will be at home. There is a long time between now and then though and we have no idea what awaits them.
