Dallas lacrosse team scores for bridal show

DALLAS TWP. – Shedding their cleats, padding and lacrosse sticks for high heels, lace and tuxedos, 16 young women and three young men from the Dallas lacrosse team were models Sunday for the annual Irem Clubhouse Bridal Showcase.
The event, held twice a year, reaches out to brides-to-be, offering a host of ideas and services, from flowers to linens and photography to music. This spring event provided a dual service by also helping some Dallas School District students earn their community service hours and funding for the lacrosse team.
Denise DeLuca, Dallas Lacrosse Booster Club coordinator, said the team is club sponsored. The event was a great experience for the team.
“They will remember this for the rest of their lives,” she said. “I had to teach some of the girls how to wear lip stick and apply makeup.”
In a decorated banquet room in the Irem Clubhouse about 100 brides-to-be and their families enjoyed hors d’oeuvres and refreshment while gaining ideas to make their wedding day special, from table center pieces to the all-important wedding gown and tuxedos. There were a total of eight vendors.
Laurie Knauer, sales and events manager at the Irem Clubhouse, said many of the vendors offer complete wedding packages. Knauer was happy to have the students helping.
“It is wonderful,” she said. “We are able to show more gowns.”
MC Thomas Nat of ABC DJ provided the music and announced each model with a description of his or her attire. Young women, ranging from sophomores to seniors in high school, gracefully entered and walked down the runway to show brides-to-be a selection of wedding gowns, ranging from old Hollywood glamour and Victorian to traditional and modern styles. All the wedding gowns were provided by Bridal Chateau in Berwick.
Wearing designer names such as Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein, three young men, junior and senior students at Dallas High School, strutted down the aisle showing a variety of styles for the groomsmen.
Thankful for the experience of the bridal show, DeLuca said the Dallas Lacrosse Booster Club will receive a small donation for its participation. DeLuca said the Dallas team, under the PIAA, does not receive any funding from the Dallas School District.
“This year the school district has provided two fields, insurance and transportation,” said Kathy Davis, mother of Dallas Lacrosse team member Kelsey Davis. “Other expenses such as equipment, officials, the Dallas Lacrosse Booster Club pays for.”
Preparing the models for their grand debut, DeLuca provided some last-minute tips to the ladies and gentlemen.
“Walk slowly, smile, and turn, and remember you are the Dallas Lacrosse team, be proud.”
