DALLAS — There are even more snakes slithering around the reptile room at the Dallas Zoo, as it welcomed six eyelash pit viper hatchlings on Wednesday.

The don't-tread-on-me yellow-colored snakes are known for the modified scales above their eyes that look like eyelashes - hence their namesake. They are thought to help camouflage the vipers among foliage. They can also come in other colors, such as red, green, brown and pink.

These are the first new hatchlings for the zoo since 2014. According to the zoo, though the snakes appear small now, they can grow up to 2 feet long.

The Dallas Zoo spread the news this afternoon on X, formerly known as Twitter.
