UFC 309 was a truly stunning affair. While many expected the main event to be the best out of the lot, it was the co-main event that truly stole the show for many. The long-awaited lightweight rematch between Michael Chandler and Charles Oliveira was a match for the ages. Oliveira was able to dominate Michael Chandler both in the ring and on the ground during the first four rounds, but 'Iron' came back with an incredible comeback sequence in the fifth round. Despite Chandler's devastating attacks, 'Do Bronx' weathered the storm and ended up knocking down the former Bellator champion several times at the last minute to close out the fight. But it wasn't just the win that helped Oliveira make headlines, as in the process, he also created a record that isn't likely going to break anytime soon. But what is the record you ask? Well, after the fight, it was announced that Oliveira and Michael Chandler won the Fight of the Night. As a result, the duo got a bonus, with the Brazilian from the favelas becoming the fighter with the most bonuses received (20) in UFC history. This means that he has made Dana White pay him over $1 million in bonuses. Charles Oliveira defeated Chandler via unanimous decision (49-46, 49-46, 49-45). For the fight, each fighter pocketed $50,000, apart from the Fight of the Night bonus. It seems like 'Do Bronx' is looking to reclaim the lightweight throne that he earlier lost. In the process, he is bagging all the bonuses that one can get. Well, it surely looks like there is no stopping Charles Oliveira . However, he wasn't the only UFC fighter who was busy shattering records in UFC 309. Jon Jones, the MMA GOAT for many fans, also created several records in his very first UFC heavyweight championship title defense. So what were the records? Joining Charles Oliveira, Jon Jones creates history yet again In the main event of UFC 309, heavyweight champion Jon Jones (28-1 MMA, 22-1 UFC) returned from a 20-month break to face Stipe Miocic (20-5 MMA, 14-5 UFC), and it isn't far-fetched to say that 'Bones' simply outclassed him with relative ease. He proved his dominance spectacularly via a third-round TKO that further etched his name into the all-time Octagon record books. In his career, Jon Jones created several records that are a tough follow-up for any fighter in his division. 'Bones' became the fourth fighter in UFC history to make title defenses in two weight classes, after Henry Cejudo, Amanda Nunes, and Daniel Cormier. His eight wins in UFC title fights are tied with Matt Hughes (eight) for the second most in company history behind Anderson Silva (nine). His 20-fight undefeated streak in the UFC is also the longest among active UFC fighters. This further proves that there is a reason why many consider him the MMA GOAT. However, for the ones in doubt, they'll love it if Jon Jones goes up against Tom Aspinall to prove them wrong. For now, fans will just have to wait and see how things play out between the UFC, Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall. Which fight did you like better? The one featuring Jon Jones or the Fight of the Night featuring Charles Oliveira? Let us know in the comments.
