Danny Grant looks for ‘new challenge’ as Bohs continue mass clear out of players

C.Chen29 min ago
In response to their worst season in many years, Bohs have reacted with mass changes to their squad and a number of departures. Over the weekend the club confirmed that James Akintunde, Declan McDaid, Brian McManus, Martin Millar, Jevon Mills and Filip Piszczek had all been released.

And in the last 24 hours Grant was also told he could leave, with Paddy Kirk also in line for an exit. "Thank you for a chance to play here for a second time, to those who always supported me and and especially for the amazing teammates and friends I made along the way, looking forward to a new challenge now," Grant said in a social media post.

After impressing with Bangor Celtic, Grant was brought to Bohs by Keith Long in 2018 and he made a big impression in his three seasons with the Gypsies, also wining three U-21 caps alongside future senior internationals like Gavin Bazunu, Nathan Collins and Liam Scales. That form led Huddersfield Town to sign Grant in December 2020 but he was held back by injury and left Huddersfield without a first team game in his two and a half seasons there, rejoining Bohs midway through the 2023 season and the current season was a struggle for the club and for Grant, who started only 16 league games.

Speaking mid-season, Grant said he struggled with his situation in Huddersfield and also in testing times at Bohs since his return. "It's been difficult and it affected me, people around me, my mam and dad and people here at the club, the physio, they spoke to me. A few weeks ago the physio asked me if I wanted to speak to the PFAI psychologist, people who know you can tell it's affecting you," he said in May.

"Football is, for me, pretty much the only thing I have in my life. I have my family and friends but I don't really have any other hobbies, football is everything to me so when it's not going well, it gets really difficult. When it's like that all you can do is keep going and hope your fortunes change and for me."

Sligo Rovers have also started their squad building for 2025 with three players from this season's squad released. The club today confirmed that Stefan Radosavljevic, Charlie Wiggett, and JR Wilson would not be back at the Showgrounds next term.

Irish underage internationals Luke Pearce (Cardiff City) and Jack Henry-Francis (Arsenal) will return to their clubs after their loan deals expired but Rovers are braced for a fight to retain keeper Ed McGinty. He impressed on loan from Oxford United to his former club, Sligo, and his deal with Oxford expires in the summer so Sligo will expect intense competition from domestic rivals to land his signature for the 2025 season if Oxford allow him to leave.
