DAYTON, Ohio ( WDTN ) — This weekend, Dayton celebrated Hispanic culture with the 23rd annual Hispanic Heritage Festival on Saturday.

Held at RiverScape MetroPark in downtown every year, the Hispanic Heritage Festival features a parade, live music, dancing, and plenty of food to embrace and celebrate Hispanic culture.

Why Hispanic Heritage Month begins September 15th

The festival is held every year to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, which occurs from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15.

Organizers say events like these are important because they help keep different cultures alive within America.

"This festival helps remind my country, and I know everyone that is coming to this country, for them, it's very important to feel that they have parts in the United States for our country." said Martha-Jeannette Rodriguez, PACO community liaison.

The festival is also a fundraiser for the non-profit Puerto Rican, American and Carribbean Organization (PACO).
