Deadline approaching for flood reimbursement in Hartford’s north end

HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — The deadline is approaching to apply for flood damage reimbursement in the north end of Hartford.

The project, which started in 2023 with $5 million, expanded to non-residents in 2024 with an additional $4 million in funding. The project began when residents of the north end said that their homes were repeatedly flooded because of storm drains being too small.

Rep. Matt Ritter (R-Conn), the Speaker of the House, worked with residents and lawmakers to create the fund. State Comptroller Sean Scanlon said that they have been able to give out a lot of money.

"$6 million has gone to 450 people and businesses in the community that never thought they would see a dollar of compensation for these floods," Scanlon said. "Thanks to this program, in the last 18 months we have helped people who never thought they would get help."

A second part of the program will replace some of the storm drains, providing some added relief to residents in the area.

The deadline to apply is Dec. 2.
