DeAndre Hopkins is making plays happen with Patrick Mahomes

Through six games with the Tennessee Titans this season, wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins accumulated 15 receptions for 173 yards and a touchdown on 21 targets. Yet in only his first two games with the Kansas City Chiefs , he's collected 10 catches for 115 yards and two touchdowns on 12 targets.

After Monday night's 30-24 overtime victory against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers , Hopkins noted that wide receivers coach Connor Embree is just one of those working hard to get him acclimatized in Kansas City.

"[I'm] a lot more comfortable," he told reporters after the game. "[The] coaches do a great job of getting me prepared. I think it's not just Connor, but everybody on the offensive side. Everybody's always testing me — asking me questions to see my knowledge of the offense as we go."

But most of all, he's been working on building chemistry with quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

"[It's] communication," he explained. "[We're] talking through our practice [and] talking in the locker room — just communicating every day about looks that we see. [It's] me just picking his brain, asking him what he likes. And when I'm not out there taking a rep, I'm always learning — just seeing how he does things."

It's already paying off in games. In Hopkins' biggest plays of Monday night, the relationship he's building with Mahomes played a role.

"Pat and I were just out there making a play," he said of the 35-yard pass that set up the Chiefs' first touchdown — which Hopkins also caught. "They play good defense. They had the first initial route covered. I might have run the wrong route at first — [but] Pat just worked with me, scrambling."

On the second touchdown, Mahomes knew right where the ball needed to go.

"Pat and I were playing ball," recalled Hopkins. "We kind of figured we would have that look. Two guys were trying to combo me — [so] he put the ball where only I could get it."

Hopkins and his teammates were so sure he was ready to score his first Kansas City touchdown that they had prepared a "Remember The Titans" celebration to mark it.

"That's one of my favorite movies," revealed Hopkins. "So, you know, I knew if I got in the end zone, I was going to have to 'Remember the Titans.'"
