Decade of storm damage to be burned in Terre Haute
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The City of Terre Haute is moving forward with a controlled burn of storm debris.
According to a media release, the City of Terre Haute has been approved to conduct the controlled, open burn of vegetation debris from a decade's worth of storm damage. The release goes on to state that the burn will begin sometime this week at Terre Haute's NE Industrial Park.
The release states the purpose of this controlled burn is to remove the built-up storm debris that was previously hauled to that location.

"The city is burning several piles of debris from decades of storms and brush pick-up activities," Terre Haute Mayor Brandon Sakbun said. "This is the most cost-effective solution and requires substantial coordination with IDEM and local government to burn these piles safely."
The Terre Haute Department of Wastewater Utility will oversee the open burn. The Vigo County Sheriff's Department, Vigo County Health Department, and the Terre Haute Fire Department have been notified.
Adequate firefighting equipment will be on-site for extinguishing purposes during burning times.
