Deciphering food labels as a diabetic with Jen Avis

M.Nguyen1 hr ago
MONROE, La. (KNOE) - Nutritionist Jen Avis joined Good Morning ArkLaMiss to explain how to read a food label if you have diabetes.

According to Avis, a diabetic should always consider the serving size.

"When you're looking at a label the first thing you want to look at is serving size. Don't pay any attention to the percents that are on the right side. What you want to then focus on is total carbohydrates because everything under that is included in the total and you can actually subtract the fiber."

Avis said diabetics should load up on vegetables that are carb-free such as:

  • Turnip Greens
  • Collard Greens
  • Mustard Greens
