Deion Sanders calls Texas Tech defense good, not great 'because that would be lying'

Deion Sanders wanted to compliment their next opponent's defense – but only so much.

Sanders commented on Texas Tech's defense ahead of Colorado's matchup with them in Lubbock on Saturday. He said they were good but didn't want to go as far as to say great to avoid what he would think is lying. Still, there are aspects of what the Red Raiders are doing that'll be difficult for the Buffaloes to deal with.

"Defense is good," said Sanders. "I'm not gonna say they're great because that would be lying but they're good."

"And they're opportunistic. They take the ball away," Sanders added. "They take the ball away and that should be applauded."

Texas Tech certainly doesn't have one of the better scoring defenses in the country this season. They've allowed an average of 34.4 points per game, which is 120th overall nationally. That includes 33.5 ppg. in their six games through play in the Big 12 . They've also allowed an average of 414.1 yards per game to their nine total opponents with 462.5 per game in league play.

Still, the Red Raiders have, as noted by Coach Prime , made some difference back in turnovers. They've forced 16 this fall, 11 interceptions with three multi-pick outings along with five fumble recoveries, for 1.8 forced per game.

All but one of Texas Tech's opponents is averaging more than 29 ppg. this season. Colorado is now no different in their next game this weekend. The Buffs are posting 31.4 ppg. and 404.5 yards, including 36.4 points and 410.6 in the Big 12, while also only giving away just 1.1 turnovers a game this season.

Texas Tech may not be one of the better defense in college football. They're still a unit that can cause a problem if Colorado gives them the chance to, though, which is what Sanders is keeping in mind ahead of kickoff.
