Democrats lost ground with NY voters in 2024 election
NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) – New York hasn't voted for a Republican presidential candidate since Ronald Reagan in 1984, but in Tuesday's election, the state's Democratic stronghold waned.
In the presidential race, Vice President Kamala Harris won New York with 55.8% of the vote, beating President-elect Donald Trump by 11.6 percentage points. As of Wednesday afternoon, 97% of votes have been counted in New York .

In 2020, President Joe Biden had a healthier lead of 23.1 percentage points over Trump, winning New York with 60.9% of the vote. In 2016, Hillary Clinton won New York with 58.8% of the vote and Trump won 37.5% of the vote.

The trend is similar in New York's U.S. Senate races . This year, Democratic incumbent Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand won with 58.4% of the vote over Republican newcomer Mike Sapraicone. It's a drop-off from her last election in 2018 when she won with 67% of the vote.

The trend is also true in New Jersey , where Harris won 51.5% of the vote on Tuesday. Biden won New Jersey with 57.3% of the vote in 2020.
