Dems think Philly absentee ballot dump could boost Harris, former staffer says
MSNBC commentator and former Democratic staffer Symone Sanders-Townsend on Tuesday night said Democrats think a late absentee ballot dump could turn Pennsylvania blue in support of Vice President Kamala Harris.
Former President Donald Trump holds a slim lead in Pennsylvania with 51.2% of the vote as of 11:30 p.m. ET, according to the Associated Press. Harris, as of that time, had 47.9% of the vote, with just under 80% of votes counted.
"Democrats believe that they have tens of thousands of votes that are outstanding from Philadelphia County, these are absentee ballots," Sanders-Townsend said. "And they believe that within the hour that—these three individuals have told me—that within the 11:00 p.m. hour that those votes are going to come in."
"Those numbers will bode will for Vice President Harris and Governor Walz," she added.
Sanders-Townsend served as chief spokesperson for Vice President Kamala Harris from 2020 to 2021. She later joined MSNBC as a weekend personality.
The Keystone State is one of several crucial swing states that both campaigns have focused significant attention on. Its 19 electoral votes could decide the outcome of the election.
MSNBC hosts have openly supported Democrats and criticized Republicans throughout the election cycle. Host Rachel Maddow on Monday described the United States' relationship with billionaire Elon Musk as an "untenable reality." Musk is a strong supporter of Trump.
She also called for the government to cease doing business with his companies.
"Now that we know what we know about Elon Musk, this election – regardless of who wins – has produced a national security problem that is going to be a huge new thing for our country to deal with, likely with tons of drama," Maddow said. "And, it will start as soon as we've got an election result either way."
