Dennis Eschmann, Racine Veteran and Craftsman, Dies at 79
Dennis Henry Eschmann, a beloved veteran and lifelong craftsman, died November 1, 2024, at Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center in Milwaukee. He is known for his passion for woodworking and dedication to his community. He leaves a legacy of compassion and creativity.
Early life and military serviceBorn in Racine, Wisconsin, on June 14, 1945, he graduated from Wm. Horlick High School in 1964. Shortly after, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving during the Vietnam War, including the TET Offensive in DaNang.
A life of love and dedicationIn 1969, Dennis married Carol Keller in Sioux City, Iowa. Together, they built a life in Racine, where he worked as an electrician for Young Radiator, Racine Steel Castings, and J.I. Case Co. He was a member of Emaus Lutheran Church and a volunteer with Raymond Fire and Rescue.
Passion for woodworking and communityDennis's talent for woodworking, particularly his iconic Jesus Fish, was well-known. He crafted and gave away over 10,000 wooden Jesus Fish, seeing it as a ministry that spanned the globe. His kindness and humor left an indelible mark on family and friends alike.
Funeral service and memorialsFuneral services, with full military honors, will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at Emaus Lutheran Church, 1925 Summit Avenue, Racine, with visitation from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. The service will be live-streamed.
Memorial donations may be made to Emaus Lutheran Church or Veterans Outreach of Wisconsin.
