Denver resident shares warning after recent spike of slashed tires, cracked windshields

DENVER, Colo. ( KDVR ) — A Denver woman had her parked car vandalized twice in a matter of weeks. After learning she's not the only one, she's now speaking out to warn others.

Vaneska Salas is unable to drive off from her apartment complex in the Virginia Village neighborhood. Her tire was slashed this past weekend while she was parked in the parking lot overnight. The damage came shortly after her windshield was cracked on a different occasion.

"I was just shook, I was in disbelief," Salas said. "I was like, wow. Like who has so much hate to be doing this to people who have nothing to do with whatever your beliefs are."

At first, she thought it was her Florida license plates because she noticed another Florida-tagged car damaged, but then she spoke with another victim fixing his tire who had Colorado plates.

After learning about multiple victims, she created a Google form for other victims to fill out and posted it to Nextdoor. She's received a dozen responses already in addition to comments from victims on her original post.

"There's a gentleman who had it happened three different times like he's like forced to go park somewhere else and that's why I'm spreading the word, because I cannot afford to keep replacing my tires because somebody decided to play vigilante and or just spray hate towards people, their neighbors," Salas said.

Salas reported what happened to her to the police and her complex management.

"They (management) told me that they're working on it," Salas said. "They're sorry this happened to us. They already have an agent trying to figure it out and to document any expense."

While she hopes police can arrest the culprit soon, she's doing what she can to warn others in the meantime.

"Somebody through the form said their brake fluid was also drained, with that we're not talking just about vandalism here," Salas said. "We're also talking about like possible attempts, it could cause somebody like that, like body damage or worse lives."

Denver police have received three reports of criminal mischief matching that address. These cases are all under investigation. No arrests have been made. Anyone with information is asked to call Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867.

FOX31 reached out to the apartment complex for more information and will post any updates as they become available.
