MANITOU SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - One of the most unique events in Colorado is celebrating 30 years later this month!

The organizers behind the Emma Crawford Coffin Races shared details on this year's event and the public can expect closures in Manitou Springs on Oct. 26.

Emma Crawford was a woman who was buried on Red Mountain.for more on her history . According to several local historians, Emma's coffin was dislodged during heavy rainfall and came racing down the mountain, inspiring the races to honor her memory. Emma supposedly still haunts Red Mountain to this day...

The following details were shared publicly on Friday for the Oct. 26 races:

9 a.m. – 12 p.m.:

Manitou Avenue will be closed from Old Mans Trail to the Ruxton Roundabout All side streets in this affected area will be closed one block before they intersect with Manitou Ave.

Manitou Avenue will be closed from Old Mans Trail to the Ruxton Roundabout, with eastbound traffic allowed beginning at Pawnee Ave. Eastbound access will be available on Pawnee Ave., Deer Path Ave., and S Path.

Coffin Races Detours and Closures Map

As a reminder, parking for the Coffin Races will be available at the following locations:

Park for free at 1675 Garden of the Gods Rd, the DMV Parking Structure, and ride one of the shuttles that run from 9am-6pm on race day for $5 roundtrip. It will drop off/pick up from Hiawatha Gardens at 10 Old Mans Trail, 1 block from Downtown. Shuttles run a continuous route, will arrive approximately every 15-20 minutes.

Bike to the races! PikeRide is offering a FREE bicycle valet located in Memorial Park 10 AM until 6PM or lock up at one of many bike racks around town. Bike TO the races, get a for your next journey!

Catch a ride with Uber/Lyft/Z-trip! There is a designated dropoff/pickup spot at the Chase Bank on Manitou Avenue - 484 Manitou Ave, Manitou Springs, CO 80829.
