(WSPA) – Deputies with the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office said that a plot to bring contraband ended Wednesday with the arrest of two former detention officers and an additional charge for four inmates.

The following inmates received an additional charge of furnishing contraband in prison:

  • Investigators were able to determine that between Friday, Nov. 1, and Monday, Nov. 4, an inmate allegedly persuaded 25-year-old Christopher Randall Duncan, of Wellford, and 26-year-old Darius Michael Fuller, of North Carolina, to aid in helping him bring contraband into the detention center.

Duncan and Fuller were hired as detention officers within the Cherokee County Detention Center on Jan. 22 this year, the sheriff's office said. Both men were terminated from employment on Nov. 6.

Subsequently, the former corrections officers were arrested, stripped of their uniforms, placed in jumpsuits and charged with furnishing contraband to an inmate.

The items the suspects attempted to smuggle were cigarettes, vapes and marijuana according to deputies.

It was reported that the plot was for 21-year-old Vanessa Renee Addy, of Gaffney, to pose as a food delivery worker and bring a bag with the contraband hidden inside to the detention officers. The detention officers would then get the contraband into the hands of an inmate who delivered the items to the housing units.

Addy was located and arrested Thursday, Nov. 7 and charged with furnishing contraband in a prison.

The case remains under investigation by the CCSO.
