'Didn't Have Lot of Fans': Danny Lee Reveals Struggles Competing Against Fan-Favorite Bryson DeChambeau

Although many LIV Golf pros cannot tee up at the Ryder or Presidents Cup, the breakaway circuit presents them with their own match play so that they don't miss out on it. And the LIV Golf Team Championship is all about that. The 12 teams are currently duking it out at Maridoe Golf Club in Dallas where yesterday, the 2-time US Open winner, Bryson DeChambeau experienced a crushing loss at the hands of Danny Lee.

But it was not the first rodeo of the Iron Heads GC member! On the first day of the LIV Golf Team Championship, Lee defeated the 2023 Individual Champion, Talor Gooch 1UP in the quarter-finals, before beating DeChambeau 2UP in the semi-final. But winning against the 2-time major winner for Lee was not as easy and not just because of his form. Talking to Su Ann Heng after his victory, the Korean pro was asked how he won, even though the odds were against him. Lee recalled the game and said, "I just trying to keep my head down and do my best. I putted really well today"

But it doesn't mean that the game with DeChambeau was at all easy, Lee expressed, "It was a tough match today, all the way to the end." Furthermore, he called DeChambeau an incredible play and expressed that he was happy to win against him. Although not everyone believed that Lee could defeat DeChambeau as the fan-favorite golfer, the fans at Maridoe GC were mostly cheering for the 2-time US Open winner. And that made Lee a bit discouraged as he said, "I was a little sad I didn't have a lot of fans out here today but [sic that] I was expecting."

Despite being assumed as the loser of the match against DeChambeau, Lee proved the critics wrong and emerged as the better player than the reigning US Open champion. And even though the crowd was a bit biased with their support at Maridoe Golf Club, they indirectly helped Lee to win against DeChambeau.

Danny Lee expresses what helped against DeChambeau If it had been anyone else, they could have crumbled under the intense pressure of playing against Bryson DeChambeau. Moreover, the Iron Heads were dead last in the standings before the LIV Golf Team Championship started, so Lee's victory against Gooch was the key difference for the victory. Unlike many, Danny Lee looked at the bright side of things.

Although only a few were screaming his name from inside the ropes, he was determined to use the lack of support as a weapon. He didn't want to lose that motivation to people expecting less from him as he said, "Whenever they say you're gonna lose to Bryson, I just try to think of it opposite and try to somehow make it as a positive momentum and I did, I played well today."
