Israeli attack kills 22 at Gaza school building

DEIR AL-BALAH, Gaza Strip — An Israeli strike Saturday on a school in northern Gaza killed at least 22 people, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.

Another 30 were wounded in the strike in the Zeitoun area of Gaza City, the ministry said. Most of the casualties were women and children, it said.

The Israeli army said earlier Saturday that it struck Hamas' "command and control center, which was embedded inside a compound that previously served" as a school. It said steps were taken to limit harming civilians.

Also on Saturday, the Gaza Health Ministry said five of its workers were killed and five others wounded by Israeli fire that struck the ministry's warehouses in the southern Musbah area.

Russia, Crimea see mass Ukrainian drone strike

KYIV, Ukraine — A major Ukrainian drone attack set multiple Russian arms depots ablaze, destroying what Ukraine's General Staff said were thousands of tons of weaponry, including missiles from North Korea.

Ukraine launched more than 100 drones at Russia and the occupied Crimean Peninsula overnight, Russian news reports and the Defense Ministry said Saturday. The strikes set an arms depot on fire just miles away from one struck by Ukrainian drones days earlier.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy appealed for quick action from the U.S. to send more weapons before his visit to the White House this week with a multi-point "victory plan." He told reporters the plan he will present to U.S. President Joe Biden will include long-range strike capabilities and other weapons long sought by Kyiv, and will serve as the basis for any future negotiation with Russia.
