Bannon released from prison after 4 months

Longtime Donald Trump ally Steve Bannon, 70, was released from he Federal Correctional Institution in Danbury, Connecticut, Tuesday after serving a four-month sentence for defying a subpoena in the congressional investigation into the U.S. Capitol attack on Jan. 6, 2021.

A jury found Bannon, 70, guilty in 2022 of two counts of contempt of Congress: one for refusing to sit for a deposition with the Jan. 6 House Committee and a second for refusing to provide documents related to his involvement in Trump's efforts to overturn his loss to Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential race.

TB infections reach historic mark, WHO reports

LONDON — More than 8 million people were diagnosed with tuberculosis last year, the World Health Organization said Tuesday, the highest number recorded since the U.N. health agency began keeping track.

About 1.25 million people died of TB last year, the new report said, adding that TB likely returned to being the world's top infectious disease killer after being replaced by COVID-19 during the pandemic. The deaths are almost double the number of people killed by HIV in 2023.

TB deaths continue to fall globally, however, and the number of people being newly infected is beginning to stabilize.

ABORTION: U.S. District Judge Mark Walker extended a temporary restraining order on Tuesday, siding with Floridians Defending Freedom, that continued to block State Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo from threatening TV stations that air commercials for a Nov. 5 ballot measure that would add abortion rights to the state constitution.

istrict Judge Christopher Conner threw out a lawsuit Tuesday filed by six Republican congressmen seeking to make Pennsylvania election officials institute new checks confirming the eligibility and identity of those who vote from overseas.

NETWORK BAN: CNN has banned conservative writer Ryan Girdusky from the network following a contentious on-air exchange in which he told panelist Mehdi Hasan that "I hope your beeper doesn't go off," an apparent reference to September's attacks in which pagers and walkie-talkies used by hundreds of Hezbollah members in Lebanon and Syria exploded simultaneously, killing 39.

EMPLOYMENT: U.S. job openings dropped from 7.9 million in August to 7.4 million in September, their lowest level since January 2021, the Labor Department reported Tuesday.
