Documentary highlighting 5 Rockford-area women veterans screened in Oregon
ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — A local documentary team showcased a film that tells the stories of five Rockford area women and their journey fighting for the U.S. on Saturday.
"Take Your Own Notes" was screened for the first time at the Coliseum Museum of Art Antiquities and Americana in Oregon.
The Harlem Veteran Project interviewed over 150 veterans in making the documentary.
The film's co-director said the students involved with the project wanted to shine a light on the unique challenges and triumphs of women in the service.
"We really wanted to highlight and make sure, people saw that just because their service time ended, they were still giving back to their communities and still wanting to find that kind of service to the community was something really important to them, to all of them," said Co-Director Kyra Newnam.
The documentary has been shown throughout the year at different film festivals. Now, the group hopes to be able to find a distribution partner to broaden their audience.
