Dog Dies, Officer And Boy Both Doing Well After Sayreville Dog Attack The 10-year-old boy who was mauled by the dogs, and the officer shot by a stray bullet, are both recovering Wednesday.

SAYREVILLE, NJ — Two dogs were shot by police as they attacked a boy Monday at the Knights Inn in Sayreville. One of the dogs died at the scene.

According to information from Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone, the 10-year-old boy who was mauled by the dogs is currently "doing well," and has been released from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.

A spokeswoman for the prosecutor said it was a total of three dogs that started mauling the boy, who was staying at the Knights Inn with his family. The three dogs are owned by the boy's family.

A family member called 911 at 11:20 a.m. Monday to say their child was being attacked by their dogs, and when officers got there they saw the dogs attacking the boy.

Sayreville Police officers shot two of the dogs and one of the dogs died at the scene. In the process, a police officer was struck by a ricochet bullet, and superficially wounded.

As of Wednesday, the police officer is also doing well; he was also treated at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, said the prosecutor's spokeswoman. The prosecutor is not releasing the name of any of the officers involved at this time.

The prosecutor did not release the breed of dogs, but did say "they appeared to be mixed breed."

No charges have been filed. Anyone with information or surveillance footage of the area is asked to call Detective Stephanie Redline of the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office at 732-745-3316.
