Donald Trump inspired trend is taking over the sports world

Jon Jones' brilliance as arguably the greatest mixed martial artist of all-time was on display Saturday night at UFC 309 with president-elect Donald Trump sitting cage side. Jones further cemented his G.O.A.T. status by dominating and then dispatching Stipe Miocic with a spinning back kick to the midsection. That sent Miocic crumbling to the canvas, and in the moments the followed, during his victory celebration, Jones did "The Trump." What is "The Trump" you ask? Well, the president-elect made a habit of dancing — sort of — to music at his rallies. It's really just a little, hands out to the side, shimmy. Jones did his best impression of it before hopping out of the octagon and having a few words with Trump while letting him hold his title belt.Donald Trump is now selling a 'Victory' sneaker and, yes, it costs a lot of money Country music legend becomes MAGA target on social media without saying a word Ex-Steelers star who backed Trump addresses trans woman's accusations on X Fox News host's mom uninvites him to Thanksgiving dinner after Trump win Cruise line offers passengers chance to 'Skip Forward' for 4 years after Trump's election win Jones isn't the only athlete doing the dance, though. Las Vegas Raiders tight end Brock Bowers did it following a touchdown on Sunday. "I've seen everyone do it," he told USA Today after. "I watched the UFC fight last night and Jon Jones did it. I like watching UFC, so I saw it and through it was cool." USA Today said the team oddly ended Bowers' media availability after that question. Bowers was not alone, though, in what has been a growing trend in the sports world. Titans wide receiver Calvin Ridley and Lions defensive end Za'Darius Smith also did the Trump-inspired dance following big plays on Sunday, and 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa, who was recently fined more than $11,000 by the NFL for wearing a MAGA hat on air, broke it out a week ago. The Associated Press reported that college players have been doing the dance "for weeks." And, it seems, most of the "shut up and play" crowd has been quick to praise the new move on social media. So, maybe a new trend has been started, too, where it is now acceptable to make political statements on the field or court. Time will tell on that one, but, for now, don't be surprised if you see "The Trump" being done in an end zone down the stretch of this football season.
