For $10, you can sample nine wildly different chilis from local restaurants at The Cork Tucson's Fun Chili Cook-off on Saturday, Sept. 28.

Now in its 20th year, this fundraiser at The Cork Tucson, 6320 E. Tanque Verde Road, helps send local boys and girls to overnight summer camp through the Arizona Daily Star Sportsmen's Fund Send a Kid to Camp program.

Local restaurants will donate their best chili — most imagined specifically for the event — for the public to sample and judge from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., or until the last spoon is licked clean.

Restaurants participating are The Cork Tucson, Canyon's Crown, Dante's Fire, Eclectic Cafe, Fini's Landing, Noble Hops, Renee's Tucson, Happy Rooster and Tesoro Latin Kitchen and Cantina.

The chili cook-off has raised more than $288,500 for the Send A Kid To Camp program since 2004.

The Arizona Daily Star Sportsmen's Fund raises money so children from low-income households and active military families can attend summer camp at little or no cost to their families.

Since 1947, the Sportsmen's Fund has helped pay for 44,512 children to go to camp. We're one of the oldest 501(c )(3) charities in Arizona and one of the most efficient, with 97 cents from every dollar going to send kids to camp.

We send local kids to weeklong YMCA, Boy Scout and Girl Scout overnight camps, as well as overnight camping at Camp Tatiyee for school-age children with special needs.

Our goal was to raise $225,000 and to send at least 500 kids to camp. So far, we've received 1,055 donations totaling $205,879. That's $19,121 shy of our goal.

We sent 505 local boys and girls to sleepaway camp this summer at a cost of $264,920.

Donations are welcome throughout the year. Recent donations include:

Susan and Chuck Bush, $300.

Michael and Judy Rigby, $38.

The Salpointe Class of 1967 Lunch Bunchers, $125.
