Donate to Arizona Daily Star Send A Kid to Camp, save on your Arizona taxes

The Arizona Daily Star Sportsmen's Fund raises money so children from low-income households and active military families can attend summer camp at little or no cost to their families.

Since 1947, the Sportsmen's Fund has helped pay for 44,564 children to go to camp. We're one of the oldest 501(c )(3) charities in Arizona and one of the most efficient, with 97 cents from every dollar going to send kids to camp.

We send local kids to weeklong YMCA, Boy Scout and Girl Scout overnight camps, as well as overnight camping at Camp Tatiyee for school-age children with special needs.

Our goal was to raise $225,000 and to send at least 500 kids to camp. We sent 567 local boys and girls to sleepaway summer camp at a cost of $265,670.

So far, we've received 1,066 donations totaling $210,911.19. Last month's Cork Tucson Chili Cook-Off raised $27,000, putting us over the top of our fundraising goal and helping us whittle down our deficit.

Donations are welcome throughout the year. Recent donations include:

Charles Autrey, $470.

David Barden, $470.

Joann E. Davis, $50.

Stuart M. Dobbie, $200.

Sharon Gillingham, $100.

Stanley Lehman, $300.

Eleanor Loding, $50.

Joan T. Newman, $100.

Chania Snyder, in memory of Suzanne Parnell, $50.

Paul Tang, in memory of Oscar Ramirez, $200.

Two anonymous donations totaling $512.
